WYA SUMMER DAY AND OVERNIGHT CAMPS

WYA offers scholarships for summer day and overnight camps. While we are NOT ACCEPTING CAMP SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS AT THIS TIME, you can learn more information about WYA camp scholarships opportunities below.  Watch for 2020 camp scholarship process to begin around the end of the 2019-2020 school year.  


LOOKING FOR YOUR CHILD TO HAVE A SUMMER DAY CAMP OR 
OVERNIGHT CAMP EXPERIENCE?


Financial assistance is also available to qualified Waterford youth to attend a week of overnight summer camp at a designated Michigan Camp. Previous camps have been CYO Camp in the Caseville and Camp Copneconic in Fenton.  In 2017 WYA sent 28 youth to camp!

Parents are asked to provide:  Financial verification (W-2, school district letter verifying eligibility for free or reduced lunch, or disability or Social Security statement), along with transportation to and from the camps.

WOULD YOUR CHILD BENEFIT FROM AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

The goal of WYA Youth Enrichment is to provide low-income youth the opportunity to participate in academic, athletic and cultural skill building activities that their families might not otherwise be able to afford. These skill building scholarships are aimed at expanding a child’s horizons, increasing a child’s skills, building self-confidence and enhancing self-esteem.  In 2017 we awarded scholarships to 67 students totaling in $3,056.



YOUTH ENRICHMENT SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES

The following factors are considered when determining eligibility to receive a Youth Enrichment Scholarship:
    -    The child is a resident of the Waterford School District and is under the age of 18.
    -    The child's household income falls within USDA/Section 8 guidelines



FINANCIAL VERIFICATION

WYA youth enrichment scholarships are designed to assist low income families.  To assist us in determining if you fall within federal income eligibility guidelines you will need to provide financial information and documentation on your 2019-2020 YE scholarship application.  To help you properly prepare your application and gathering the needed financial documentation, we have listed our financial verification requirement below.  : 
    -    List Your Annual Household Income     
    -    Number of Family Members in Household
    -    Please attach ONE of the following as proof of income: 
                        -    W-2 (last year’s federal income tax return)
                        -    School district letter verifying eligibility for free or reduced lunch
                        -    Disability or Social Security statement

 ** PLEASE NOTE: Food stamp, Medicaid or Bridge Cards cannot be used for low-income financial verification ** 



YOUTH ENRICHMENT PAYMENT GUIDELINES 

Waterford Youth Assistance offers Youth Enrichment scholarships to qualifying students. The applicant must meet all criteria on the application AND send a letter to WYA upon completion of activity indicating what they learned.

WYA SCHOLARSHIPS:   
    Ÿ    WYA may pay up to $75.00. Maximum per scholarship is $75.00. 
    Ÿ    Each child is eligible up to $200 in scholarships per program year (July 1- June 30).  
    Ÿ    WYA YE Scholarships do not pay for school based trips (i.e. Washington D.C. trips). 
    Ÿ    WYA Youth Enrichment scholarships are reviewed and approved once per month (2nd Thursday of            month) by WYA YE Scholarship Committee. Individual consideration is on a case-by-case basis.            WYA YE committee volunteers may contact family or activity provider for additional information to            process scholarship application.
    Ÿ    WYA provides payment directly to activity provider after receiving proof the student participated in the            activity and WYA is invoiced.

NOTIFICATION REQUIREMENT:   If unforeseen circumstances arise and your child is unable to attend/complete the activity the scholarship was requested for, please call WYA at 248-618-7383 to let us know ASAP. You will be ineligible to apply for future scholarships for the remainder of the program year if you do not notify WYA of inability to attend/complete scholarship activity.

If you meet the eligibility guidelines above and agree to our payment guidelines we invite you to apply for a WYA Youth Enrichment Scholarship.  NEW 2019-2020 APPLICATION FORMS are available at our WYA Office and are downloadable by clicking the link below.   Please note again, that our scholarships are reviewed and approved only once a month on the second Thursday of the month.  Please keep our deadline in mind when you are considering a scholarship request for the activity dates you are considering.
