Bucket of Love volunteers meet with select Waterford elementary students in the schools on a one-to-one basis for one hour a week. Throughout the school year, WYA sponsors fun activities for the students and their bucket mentors to participate which includes a fall festival with painting pumpkins, a holiday party with a visit from Santa, a spring nature activity, and an End-of-Year breakfast celebration. The Bucket of Love program helps students develop their feelings of self-worth and confidence which builds their self-esteem. Our mentors lives also have been enhance by their experiences of helping develop and encourage youngsters to reach their full potential. The Bucket of Love program coincides with the school year starting in September and ending in June.
Oakland County Youth Assistance's Mentors Plus program matches caring adults with young people who need a positive adult figure in their lives. Volunteers can choose to work with an at-risk youngster, or they may want to become involved in delinquency prevention or intervention.
